Countless NBA players have experienced this feeling. But not a single WNBA player had until recently. When NBA 2K20 premiered in 2019, it was the first time that the yearly game -- that thrived in 1999 -- featured WNBA players. Her predecessors didn't get the chance to MT NBA 2K21 perform as themselves, but Washington Mystics wing Aerial Powers could not help but make a comparison when she first played herself. "This is most likely the way the guys feel when they get in the league and they get an opportunity to play themselves on 2K," she explained. "It is just surreal and is pretty fun."
"I'd have never believed they'd implement girls into the match," Powers told USA TODAY Sports. "Even though I feel as though we ought to be in there." Dallas Wings shield Allisha Gray was enjoying 2K because Shaquille O'Neal graced the cover at 2005, and she still has trouble believing that she is a part of it. Alexis Jones, who had been waived by the Atlanta Dream in August, has always enjoyed making her own participant on 2K and will mold his game after her own. This will be the first year she won't have to create herself in the picture of a guy.
"This has been my dream come true, I don't know about everybody else," Jones said. "I understand that's 1 thing I always dreamed of as a little girl -- to be in a 2K game. This chance to make yourself and build yourself and be a girl is dope." The importance of building your own WNBA player can't be overstated, particularly for young girls who wish to play basketball or are simply fans of the sport. "I think it's astonishing that little girls can grow up and actually play the game and understand that they can still have the very same goals and accomplishments as guys," Jones said. Powers echoed the sentiment and how important representation is for young women. She wants to see more advancement together with women in the video game industry in general.
Powers streams and plays video games on Twitch and is now particularly active in gaming since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. She even hosted an all-female 2K championship in October that contained a 30-minute opening musical group by Grammy Award winning performer DJ Jazzy Jeff. The flow garnered over 26,000 audiences. The 2019 WNBA winner says when she plays video games online she is occasionally met with misogynistic messages from different consumers, and she expects that new modes like"The W" will make it easier for women playing video games. "It sort of gives the younger women a fantastic look and says,'Hey, it's fine to Cheap NBA 2K21 MT Coins be a lady, like basketball and wish to play,' because I understand some of their male buddies may have a different view," Powers said. "But if you see the women in the game, it's like,'Hey, this is all right.'"
